Quarterly Riddle Contest:

The riddle for April, May, and June is another multiple choice that should give you no trouble at all::

Which of the following are you very unlikely to find on a dinner table?
Champignon, Capsicum, Caisson, Chalice, Chalupas, Challah

Question Mark

GOOD LUCK! Stop in to enter your answer sometime during this April, May, June.

The last riddle went as follows:
I love the old terms used in roadside diners during the last century. Can you identify the two foods that were described with the terms ‘Boston strawberries’ and ‘baled hay’? The correct answer to the last riddle was: Boston Baked Beans (Boston Strawberries) and Shredded Wheat Cereal (Baled Hay). Our most recent winners were Pat Walsh of Carmi, IL, Janet Dietrich of Newburgh, and Dayne Wilson of Evansville. Congratulations to all of you!

(To enter our little contest, you will have to stop in and write your answer on a proper entry form, which will include your name, address, and phone number. On the first of each month we empty the entry box, separate all the correct answers, put those back into the box, and draw one winner per month. The prize is a $25.00 gift certificate, good for class registrations or merchandise.

There is a limit of one entry per household per month! We will also allow only one winner per household per calendar year. The winners’ names will be published, along with the correct answer, in the next quarter).

Featuring PANACHE Coffee Beans

For 24 years now we’ve had the same primary source for our coffee beans. We’ve never been seriously tempted to change that because the coffees are so good. Many of you have been loyal coffee customers for over 20 years, and we see you every week or two to replenish your supply.

SOME OF OUR BESTSELLERS:

Nashville Blend (our own)
Marrakesh Espresso
Guatemala Antigua
Mike’s House Blend
(our own)
Italian Roast Blend
Costa Rica Tarrazu
Kenya AA
Tanzanian Peaberry

Dark Sumatran
Hazelnut-flavored Blend
Mexican Altura Pluma

(both regular and Velvet roasts)
Brazilian Bourbon Santos
Columbian Supremo
Campesino Blend

and many more . . .

We, Shelly and Mike, recently spent a week at a bed-and-breakfast in Tucson, AZ. Before we went, we asked the owner if she would like us to bring some good coffee with us. Her response was that she was not much of a coffee drinker, Coffee Beansand neither were most of her guests. They didn’t usually go through even a single pot of coffee at breakfast.Because we do enjoy our coffee, we took with us a pound of Mexican Velvet Roast, ground for her coffee maker. When we got there we taught her the importance of good water and a clean pot. We also taught her the proper proportions of coffee to water. We were not surprised when, the next morning, she had to make a second, and then a third, pot of coffee. She herself drank two full cups, and considered having a third. To make a long story short, we ran out of coffee on the third day. We spent a fair part of that day finding a store (Table Talk) in Tucson that carries PANACHE coffee. We bought her enough to last through our stay, and told her which coffees we would recommend for her guests. Never again, while we were there was a single pot of coffee sufficient.

If you aren’t a coffee lover, or if you think coffee doesn’t taste good; it may be because you’ve not had top quality fresh coffee, roasted and brewed correctly, in good equipment. Stop in and let us talk to you about both equipment and about our PANACHE coffees. We know it’s the Best Coffee in Your Neighborhood!

Keep your edge in the kitchen! Sharpen your Knives!

Three KnivesKnife Sharpening Services - KITCHEN AFFAIRS now sharpens your fine kitchen knives. We will examine your knives and evaluate their worthiness, re-grind the edges of those we can, (we can’t do some types of knives, or scissors, or other implements), and have them ready for pick-up 2 to 3 days after you drop them off.

We charge $2.50 per knife; and it’s a bargain, if you have good knives you’ve neglected until now. Why not bring them in, and let us take a look at them? (We may need to decline work on some knives, and are not able to sharpen scissors, hatchets, single-beveled edge blades or other edged tools).

Red BowGift Suggestions - We’ll help you find just the right item, in your price range, without being “pushy” or trying to “stretch” your gift-giving budget. We're ready to help!

May we suggest an author-autographed cookbook, one of our new styles of aprons, either for holiday or every-day wear, one of our “green” bamboo or teak cutting boards, a portable magnetic induction burner, or a ceramic baking dish (we have various styles).

Some of you will remember when we carried a line of cutlery with the Kitchen Affairs logo stamped on the blade. We loved that line, and were proud to put our name on our own brand. We have made arrangements with one of the finest manufacturers of forged cutlery in Europe to again produce those knives with our name. We hope you will stop in and let us show you why we are so proud of them. They are excellent cutlery, at excellent prices for the quality, and we think you will truly appreciate the quality. Please come let us put one in your hand. You just may want to tell Santa about them.

Cookware and cutlery remain our strongest sellers every year, as our customers increasingly appreciate the quality of the brands we sell: All-Clad, Chantal, Le Creuset, Lodge, Scanpan, Swiss Diamond, and Viking cookware, and Kyocera ceramic knives, along with Wüsthof-Trident cutlery.
